Lets face it...almost everything comes down to economics. I don't think it's any secret that steam locomotives cost a LOT more to keep running than diesels. When times are tough it's a matter of tightening the belt or loosing your pants. It would be a shame for the steam infrastructure at the GCR to go away. A much more favorable option, in my opinion, would be to mothball the steam program until such time that finances would allow it's resumtion. Once it is gone completely it takes tons more money to get it back.
