We visit my niece who lives in south Seattle area. Usually we walk a few blocks to the light rail station, where we get on a NORAD feeling elevator and go down a long ways to the station below--that in itself is a bit of an adventure; then the light rail zooms us to the downtown transit tunnel which is shared with buses (and I think now streetcars too). One can switch to the other, or go to street level and change systems--even ride the monorail out to the old World's Fair site. Buses, when we rode them, were busy. One can even take a ferry to another place, or Island. Very integrated system--but then Seattle isn't an "Ordinary" town, it's expensive and very yuppie!
