Wasn't there a steam fest up in Canada some years back? I talked with the crew that went north with CSRM's 4466 and they said that some switching was done up there. the cars involved received a special stencil stating "Switched by steam" . The interesting statement that was made by some railroad employees was that the power came on instantly whereas a diesel needs to "load up" before anything happens.
