I have read of problems with incapability issues between 1st & 2nd generation locomotives, most involving overheating traction motors or dynamic brakes if the older units were buried in consist.
Maybe some hogheads prefer a lead unit that doesn't shut down its' desktop computer for no apparent reason ???
