Being optimistic is well & good, but the Eel River Canyon has some challenging topography and downright Nasty weather. In the Northern California storms of Dec. 1964, the flood waters took out NWP railroad bridges located Sixty - plus feet above the normal flow of the Eel River. The isolated location of much of the Right of Way contributed to the 6 month rebuilding time.
