Using simple kinematics calculations, also accounting for acceleration and deceleration,
here is what NSTB investigators have to evaluate:
4:20:36 Left the Chatsworth Station
4:21:03 Received text message
4:21:53 Ran the red light at CP Topanga
4:21:56 Ran through and broke the railroad switch
4:22:01 Clicked "Send" for the reply text he wrote
4:22:23 Crash
From the time sequence of events, this is looking more like texting and inattention to operating the train are significant elements
that caused this crash. In addition he sent 24 text messages during his morning shift and five while he was on the doomed train.
This is just plain stupid, irresponsible behavior. Sure NSTB will continue to document more facts, but you can see the direction that
they are leading. BTW: Two separate and independent autopsies are in process. Maybe those results with tell NSTB something different.
