It had to happen sooner or later. We live in an ADD society, people don't have the attention spans they used to and we have to make up for that. It will cost the railroads billions to comply and yes, no doubt some lines will have to go, and significant traffic will hit the roads as a result. But we have to do what we can to save lives. I hope it appies to tourist lines too, they have a colorful safety record in many cases and need the oversight. Short lines are mainly scab outfits and most need to go anyway---they simply are accidents waiting to happen. Possitive train control is long overdue, finally something has been done about it.
