Parkwater is the locomotive terminal, while Yardley is the yard. Indeed Parkwater is located in the North area of the Yardley yard at Trent & Fancher. My memories of Parkwater are as a full sized NP facility in the steam days with roundhouse, coal dock, water tanks, etc. The turntable is still there, also the stores building, and office. The current diesel shop was the car shop in steam days. Most diesel service was moved to Interbay yard in Seattle a number of years ago.
Yardley is also experiencing a declining role as many trains now originate/terminate at Hauser yard near Rathdrum Idaho.
A Yahoo group with some interesting Spokane information is the following:
[
groups.yahoo.com]
It does require you to register and sign in to read and post messages.
I checked tonight and got the following message:
"The group SpokaneRH is temporarily unavailable".
Who knows what this means!
It does have some neat pictures which show a lot of the stuff that has disappeared in the last 15-20 years.
