A few years ago, a friend was riding a San Joaquin, with the intention of connecting at Martinez to the Starlight. Something bad tied up BNSF that day. The San Joaquin was so late they took the connections for the Starlight off at Stockton and bussed them to Sacramento. When the bus left the train station, my friend related that the bus driver said something memorable:

"Any of you folks see that movie 'Speed?' If you look at the windows at the part of town we're rolling through, you'll see why I don't want to drive this thing less than 55 miles an hour!"
