Amtrak as a whole should be privatized and split into multiple companies. These companies would buy paths from the freight railroads to run passenger services on their tracks.

The sole exception would be the Northeast Corridor. The Amtrak name would live on here, and still own the corridor, just not be run by the government.

Also, the main post mentions Amtrak selling off some of their Superliners. This is true, but the actual truth is that the Superliners being sold are crash-damaged, and that Amfleets are being sold, too. These Amfleets are also crash-damaged.
