I was going to make the same comment about the speed and struck object differences. The curve in Philly is very familiar to me as I probably rode through there several hundred times in the late 60s--most of the time GG1s (some allowed 100 mph MAS), a few times EMU Metroliners, then more in Amtrak times behind AEM7s.
My previous comments on insufficiently qualified crew and management failure to properly signalize the route and train the crews still stand, however. Yes, smarter engineers have done well on "new to them routes" w/o a pilot or familiarisation trips. Yes one is SUPPOSED to have read and understood special instructions before even getting on the train. Still, management's responsibility to ascertain the engineer has done so.
