No, NOT correct! The former steam shop manager, i.e. Steve Lee, made a formal presentation to the then CEO (Dick Davidson) about taking the 4023 from its fenced in enclosure there in Omaha (well prior to it being moved to its current display site with #6900, overlooking Interstate 80), back to Cheyenne for restoration & operation. Mr. Davidson thought that was a pretty good idea, and approved the plan. Planning was begun, and approvals given by the FRA to tow 4023 dead without air brakes, with appropriate braking cars and multiple diesels in DPU, to handle the move. As soon as two senior VPs got wind of the plan, they both applied pressure to CEO Davidson, to NOT ALLOW the plan!
As a result, the 4023 and 6900 were subsequently moved to their current display site, up on the hill, at VERY great expense.
