There is this little feature called zoom-in on most digital photo viewers. It is a neat and useful feature for looking at the detail of something. Good luck zooming in past the grain on a slide.

Projected on a screen, you can't tell the

Properly exposed slides still have depth of exposure issues, and if you can't see the grain then there is a projection problem. Another projection problem with slides is getting the entire slide to project in focus. Of course you could always digitize the slide to project it digitally, but guess what then it would have been better to take the photo digitally? Then there are features like live feedback and bracketing not available or practical with slides.

What, being able to fit in with the hipsters? ;)

You get a few points for taking video with the 5D at least.

You want to talk about a gamble, try sending your pictures off for development. Maybe your package will be lost in the mail, maybe it wont. Maybe the processor will mess up the development, maybe they wont. Maybe your house will burn down, maybe it wont. Digital can have redundant exact backup copies at multiple locations. Rotary-disk hard drives have very long storage if left unused.

The only justification for slides is the organic pleasure of taking slides, the slide photography being its own hobby separate from any subject matter on the slides. Please don't try to justify it from a quality, technical, practical, or standpoint.
