A rumor, and I mean just that, "a rumor" is that it is headed to San Onofre to move the decommissioned reactor to a disposal site. Kasgro had to get it out of S. Carolina for some reason, perhaps storage costs and the San Onofre reactor has been on a move list since at least 2013. I believe the discussion started two or three years before that. I never heard it called SONGs until now. There had been a partial line survey done in 2012, that one was stopped mid-survey when the NIMBYS put a stop to it. There has been no current line survey that I know of. From what I know, the NIMBYs still have it bottled up but my information is not current. When the last attempt to move it came up, no site would accept it. So besides not being allowed to move through certain corridors (NIMBYs) I am not sure a site to accept it has been designated. I suspect since that is the next possible move, they might just be moving it there for storage. I see by some photos posted online that the whole kit and caboodle is on the move, so it is at least a semi permanent move. I wonder if the wheel sets have been changed, they were past due in 2015 and the FRA gave an exception for the last moves. Again, I am posting a rumor about San Onofre and my information about a San Onofre move is a year old. The car is 40 years old, and the replacement fell apart when returning to Kasgro years ago. There was a substantial amount of work done on the hydraulics to finish the Summer and Vogtle tasks, but more remained to be done. After 40 years, hoses and such just wear out. Even though I use the acronym NIMBYs a lot here, I think I would be one of them if they were moving it through my backyard.
