parts of BART are directly on old SN ROW. In NJ, the Hudson-Bergen Light rail in some segments is former CRRNJ. In MD the Putrple Line light rail is finally under construction on former B&O ROW. Longer ago, the Chicago Rapid Transit Co bought a Milwaukee Rd branch (Chicago & Evanston). The at grade steam road was replaced by a 4 track elevated third rail 'elevated' shared w/ the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee, and carried freight to former Milw Rd customer using box cab electrics running off catenary on the westernmost of the 4 tracks. In the 1990s CTA in Chicago acquired "surplus" ROW on several different freight routes SW of the Loop to create the Orange Line to Midway
In NYC, the abandoned New York Westchester & Boston was partially acquired by the city becoming the Dyre Ave Line of the IRT. Other segments of the current subway routes had been either shared or outright owned with the Long Island RR
In Pittsburgh, PAT Light Rail now uses a former mainline RR bridge over the Monangahela River.
In Baltimore, a segment of the Light Rail runs on former Northern Central (PRR) ROW.
I am sure there is more--for instance some of the St Louis LR is on aformer mainline RR bridge over the Missippi.
