The only Intermodal set - up I've seen that comes close to " Direct - to - Rail " is the UPS overpass bridge from their City of Commerce sort facility, up & over the BNSF mainlines to Hobart Yard. Even this set - up uses UPS and / or BNSF contractor yard goats for the moves. Probably legal & Union reasons for this deal.
Here in Seattle, ALL trailers & containers move from the " carriers " ( UPS, FedEx, YRC, ABF, CR England, Swift , JB Hunt, Schneider ) to the rail " lifts " either with their own drivers in company or " Leased To..." trucks, or with contracted dray haulers ( XPO Logistics, HUB Group, many gyppo haulers ).
