As far as his reference to Alki Tours of West Seattle (a'la Snowtrain)... The trip we took a couple of years back was horrible. Shuttle from trackside into Leavenworth horrible..
Lack of food and toilet facilities in town for the big a crowd and on and on.

Food on train was disgusting. A LOT of ticked-off passengers. I wrote a long letter of complaint to Alki AND also to Gil Mallery at AMTRAK in Los Angeles detailing every single thing that went wrong. Gil and his boys tried to make it up to me by giving us free passage on the ICE TRAIN to Leavenworth the following January...
A lot better--less crowded--but I would never go again--even if free...

This was the trip where I was sudden;y summoned to the head-end car to be grilled by Amtrak officials about my knowledge of TRAINS and just who I thought I was. They picked on the wrong kid to grill--- I won the duel. Gil Mallery later heard about THIS episode and there are probably some employees now working for some other outfit--probably METROLINK.
