Kaiser Steel ordered their U-30-C's with extra ballast, specifically for service on the Kaiser Ore Train from the Eagle Mtn. mine to Ferrum, CA.(Kinda strange, considering the mostly downhill run to the Espee interchange.) They weighed 432,000 lbs or 72,000 lbs per axle.
Espee also ordered SD-39's extra heavy for helper service; in fact they often helped the Ore Train over Beaumont Hill. These were probably the heaviest 6 axle diesels of their day, excepting Union Pacific's twin-engine U-50-C's @ 443,000lbs.
