Well the "economics" of unnecessary cargo handling costs associated with draying and loading the container on a ship do indeed favor direct movement by truck... And, doesn't that problem with lack of remaining old growth trees left to harvest, kind of limit the volumes of lumber products to be ship out of Humboldt County, by any mode...? Those hundred car trains, took out 90% of the 500+ year old "old growth" trees in just 90 years....
Alf, I think going south from Eureka to Ferndale/Fortuna might be more doable in terms of that already being a tourist "draw", and make for a more "time competitive" ride for a tourist operation, but that doesn't provide access to the roundhouse and museum...
Folks who don't think some of these tourist operations generate more tourism...? I know how that criticism applies to the screwed up messes of guitar man... But, how does that explain successful well managed operations like Grand Canyon or DRGW, that are significant local tourist draws?
