I wondered why the N&W 1218 wasn't used for that 1992 excursion, then I found out 1218 had been pulled from service in 1991 for overhaul, and remained OOS until the entire steam program was terminated in 1994.
Hmm, could the axe suddenly fall like that on the UP's steam program? Rhetorical question... DON'T ANSWER.
