The campaign appears to have paid the fully allocated cost, and not even the much lower "public" "marginal cost" (break-even) charter rate according to the story (as if I would expect some folks to actually read....?). Amtrak actually made a lot of money, since this was way in excess of the "marginal cost' charter rate Amtrak would normally charge to run the train. So there was no taxpayer monies used to subsidize this. In fact, it would appear that the campaign is subsidizing Amtrak by paying them so handsomely..... Maybe, if others only had the campaign money to pay for a whistle stop tour, they could charter a train too...

As to these Members of Congress, whom one would have to believe are really knickers all in a frenzied twist, when you hear them spouting in great indignation this happy horse crap about how vital "Covid supplies" were being delayed....? John Philip Seymour's famous line to Tom Hanks comes to mind: You're not stupid, you're just in Congress....
