Don't know who originated the nickname; could have been a Seattle Post Intelligencer writer - Hearst; maybe a Seattle Star staffer; maybe a disgruntled Times staffer.

The term Wash Bowl is never, ever used locally. Very improper.

The topsoil in Husky Stadium has the best drainage possible; it NEVER holds water.
Wouldn't want to justify the name.

In case there is any doubt, rain was invented here. We all have REI rain jackets.

Slightly more seriously, it doesn't rain very often - it just drizzles, for months.
