HSR may be a commuter line, but far more likely one allowing Bakersfield to grow all over the south Valley, and Fresno to explode to several millions with commuters to both LA and the Bay Area; the Palmdale end of the line will be small potatos. Assuming of course that something more than just heavier-duty Metrolink track gets built. And for Palmdale commuters, something slower (than HSR) and more capacious will be able to run more often - THAT, using HSR-improved tracks, is what Palmdale wants and needs. Look at electrified Caltrain, with speeds up to 90 mph rather than 70 as on Caltrain, and you will see what the real Palmdale service likely would be. Not HSR, but improved Metrolink.
