Folks who seem to know the cost of everything, and the value of nothing.....?
So what is the total cost per passenger mile delivered in a private vehicle, and what is the cost per passenger mile delivered by a commuter train? What are the total personal and tax expenditure components per mile consumed by each mode of the your pocket?
Pulling individual cost components for one without any real comparison to the other, is as the great philosopher George Carlin, noted: It's bullshit, and it's bad for you..."
Total cost per passenger mile of "mobility" and "access" is what you're buying.... So what does that tell us that this article doesn't?
I guess that those who write such nonsense haven't ever noticed or lived long enough to notice that often oil and gasoline prices nowadays, are always on a roller coaster,either, and need to ascribe some sinister motive (in this case imaginary...) to dark sinister political manipulations, when the market answers are obvious. We have price fluctuations, large and small, all of the time, largely because of supply shocks, disruptons, oversupply, and/or shortage. And yet, still today, even after gasoline has risen back from an almost 120 year low, just earlier this year, today's prices, "adjusted for inflation", are still way less than the price of gasoline was in real dollars, back during the Gulf War in 2003.
Now, a little more reading and you get the general drift of this article, it is the pure evil of trains, the pure evil contained deep in the very the propose infrastructure bill, with an interesting spin, and proven by those selective omissions....
And, with these even more interesting comments in response, with that dog whistle he's blowing... Which seems to be resonating with a certain class of troll... It seems to have fullfilled the real purpose of the article, to rile up a certain kind of person...
I like America, I even like most Americans, and tend to like people in general.... I'm not frightened by poeple, nor of change, unlike some insecure ignorant losers who can't seem to cope, and need to find other people to blame...
I like LA, and I like trains, I like our commuter trains... I even like baseball, and the Dodgers especially....
