Obviously well stated and I look the number of rail, by whatever mode, who are gleeful at not having to use their car to go to work who would loudly balk at paying any sizable portion of the cost of their ride. Yes there is public good in mass transit but to subsidize that good removes public money from other needs. There needs to be balance. As to your parking places,a
goodly number or privately owned and are operated for profit, it's not all meterless free parking. You look at CAHSR or even the Honolulu system which will end up at $150M/mile and just cringe.
