So why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

As for the cover charge: it's what you directly pay (the fare) not what everybody else pays (the other fares, and the various subsidies that can vary all over the map). You don't pay the full cost of the show at a club in the cover charge; they expect to get income from other sources too, and if you're a cheapskate and only buy one drink you're not covering your cost.
