Actually, the Great Lakes were exempted from the new law. Other factors ended their service. The DQ survived until this year because of good marketing by Greene Line Steamers and Betty Blake, who spearheaded the original Save the Delta Queen campaign. That campaign gave the DQ national status and international fame, providing enough bookings to keep her running & maintained.
News was just released that the DQ is being leased to a group in Chattanooga until the exemption can be passed. Meantime, she will be steamed to Chattanooga and used as a B & B.
The DQ needs YOUR support NOW, email the President AND your Senators and Congressmen to support an exemption for the Delta Queen.
