Alf-- The Sacto "Deep Water Ship Channel" wasn't built in those days, so a view of either SP or River Lines steamers on the water could only have been accomplished between Mallard and Chipps while riding the SN boat "Ramon"...

Your Aunt could have ridden the NWP ferry Tamalpais or one of the others from the Ferry Building to Sausalito or Tiburon and then transfer to a NWP train to Eureka.. No other way to do it. Although, what YEAR was she taking this trip ??

There are currently TWO videos on the SN that would drive you crazy-- Oakland to Chico.
One of them has an extra car put on at Sacramento for a SEVEN car interurban ride to Chico.

There is also an excellent NWP video that shows the very trip your Aunt might have taken.
