You’ll be shocked to hear that I too despise over-engineering, the consultant mafia, and the wholesale capture of weak government agencies by powerful firms skilled at diverting enormous streams of public funds into private pockets. This is the gold-plated result, and costs at least twice what it should.

My view in the present political context is that conditions will never be more favorable for HSR than they are now, and that if we can’t start punching some holes from LA to Bakersfield now, we never will.
