Siskiyou Rail Line
Senator Ron Wyden has sent a letter to the Chairman of the Surface Transportation Board, to encourage the issuance of a decision concerning the South Portion of the Siskiyou rail line.
Last year on August 25th Roseburg Forest Products, Timber Products of Springfield and Suburban Propane filed an Emergency Alternative Rail Service Petition with the STB.
In the Emergency filing the shippers named the West Texas & Lubbock Railway as the service operator.
Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad objected to the filing but did agree to private negotiations to come to terms with the shippers. Talks quickly broke down and both parties again asked the STB to make a final decision.
Senator Wyden is hoping the petition will be considered by the STB in the next few weeks.
The Siskiyou line is technically still open to rail traffic, but according to the shippers, Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad has priced the cost of moving product by rail well beyond what they feel is a fair market value.
