Ten loaded tank cars of water staged in the areas of high fire danger across the western mountain passes. In Dunsmuir, Portola, Cascade Summit, Norden, Tehachapi, Hinkle. Add a few more towns to make say ten areas of stored water for fires . I think UP or BNSF could come up with a hundred tank cars apiece.Even old tank cars near retirement would work so long as they pass FRA and don't leak water. When I say draw water from anywhere of course I mean the closest available source but how much would it cost UP to ship water across its system . Chump change.. The tank cars would be like fire insurance and only used if needed so they are not be returned to get more water unless they are being used. No extra crews needed unless they are fighting fires. The cars staged with regular crews on manifest freights.UP and BNSF are both very profitable companies and could do this but as I said it may be cheaper and far less hassle to just let things burn up and repair it afterwards. And let me be clear I don't smoke anything but if you consider beer the good stuff, yes I be drinking now and then. Sure.
