People along the beach at White Rock are complaining in part because, since the inception of the Talgo Cascades service, three people have been struck and killed by passing trains. I have a suggestion...Stay OFF the tracks!!! When I was young and grew up in Ocean Park (just north of White Rock) in the 60's peole were getting killed by trains then too. Trespassing has not changed in this area. The complainers put their efforts into educating Joe Dumb-Dumb instead of trying to stop the use of the tracks by trains.
As to using Colebrook for a siding. The intent of the new siding north of Colebrook is to stage complete freight trains there to meet or wait to enter CN's Thornton Yard (which is notoriously messed up) or to cross the border. A new siding is not soley for an Amtrak train to duck out of the way. It's just part of the requirement BNSF put on an expaned Amtrak sevice. Upgrading the storage tracks at Colebrook doesn't address this issue.
