SF Chronicle article from 2005 lists FTA estimate of cost of BART extension to San Jose as $6.2 billion. I did not google any farther. BART always gold-plates, as with the line to SFO, so it will probably cost more. Broad gauge was a dumb idea from the get-go; that's why it was never duplicated. The wider the gauge the wider the tunnel required.
