Regarding the original subject of this thread, I am quite disappointed that Sound Transit just HAS to dig tunnels to extend the line across Lake Union to the University( of Washington ) District. What's wrong with using the lower level of the Interstate 5 bridge across Lake Union ??? It is currently used for reversible express lanes, it's 4 lanes wide, and was built in the mid - 1960's to of modern design. Also, the existing downtown transit tunnel is only a couple hundred yards away from the south end !!! Of course, this routing would preclude running under the Broadway / Capitol Hill district, where S.T. anticipates much ridership. It also would eliminate 7 years of tunneling work !!! As a Sound Transit taxpayer, I am pissed that they chose the most expensive route possible. But what the hell, it's not their money...
