Another issue I see with pushing standard gauge into Ukraine right now is that the Russians will just blow it up once it's in range of their missiles. An alternative might be to add an outside rail to Polish rails between the border and a port or 2 on the Baltic, so Ukrainian unit grain trains could run. The distance is a bit far, and the clearances might not work, but it's a thought.
