San Diego installed several red light cameras on streets years ago. Seems that the deal they made with the company that installed them let the company keep a percentage of the loot. This was found to be illegal, they were turned off, and mass refunds were made. A couple of years later a different deal was made with the company and they are back.
The one I got to go through daily was at an extremely gridlocked intersection. The problem was that even if there was a car length open on the other side of the intersection you could still get screwed if another driver made a legal right turn into that space. I never had my picture taken, couldn't afford it!
But back to trains. Los Angeles has had crossing gate cameras on the light rail line (and the adjacent UP line) to Long Beach for several years. They claim that crossing accidents have been greatly reduced.
Thanks folks,
Steve
