Apparently Quentin Kopp is miffed about the Transbay Terminal design and wants to scuttle the whole downtown idea in favor of 4th and Townsend. This location would have been much more attractive had the original depot at 3rd Street not been torn down.

Maybe what is needed is an "agonizing reappraisal"(a term I believe from the Eisenhower era)of the whole HSR project. Since the HSR honchos are hell bent for leather on massive Bart-style elevateds perhaps the system should be altogether new and separate and located entirely along freeway alignments. Hell, BART could demand it be built to broad gauge. I think that as with BART these engineers in their back of their minds really want to build a maglev or a monorail, not a railroad, anyway.
