Martin-

To post photos here, you first have to put them up on another server somewhere else. Once the photo is there you click on the little box right above the message box that has a mountain with a sun in the upper right hand corner (little box, mixed in with the text and paragraph formatting buttons). This brings up a pop-up box in which you past the URL of the photo in. That should work to post photos here.

I hope THA succeeds. However, in a lot of ways it appears they have a bad case of project-related ADD. When I lived in the area the big goal of the organization was to get the #29 running. About twelve or thirteen years ago now the organization brought a contractor in to do an inspection and evaluation of the locomotive. The lack of any sort of shop or similar facilities forced the contractor to make a lot of assumptions about things they couldn't see. From the late 1990's into the early 2000's the group had major fundraisers underway to get the #29 back up and running....right up until the time the PALCo #37 landed in their laps, at which time they shifted all efforts towards that machine. And then the D&C #3 became available, but at the price of trucking it up from Sacramento. I hope the organization can raise the funds needed and then have the focus and discipline to see it through.

Here's a link to a North Coast Journal article from 2005 about the planned excursion train along with some other viewpoints of what should be done with the railroad grade:

Here's THA's website, with a lot of pages still marked as "under construction":

Their former website- which appears to be gone now- had pictures of all of the locomotives on it. I couldn't find any such photos on the new site- it appears they are still forthcoming.

Lastly, the Samoa roundhouse is located immediately behind the Samoa cookhouse, but down a short bluff. A couple shop buildings still exist around the roundhouse. THA has a nice sign up on the access road into the site. THA has been doing vegetation removal on the NCRA tracks heading north from the shop area.

All it takes is time, and money, and discipline.
