NWP's SW1500 is always used for reliability and the gensets are used having the required PTC setup. The Rail Power genset 2001 made by Corman was among the worst locomotives ever built. Seldom did all three small Duetz engines work with one or two broke down at any given time.Continual problems with sensors false readings shutting down engines ,traction motors , blowers you name it. Rain affected operation, the wiring laying across the flooring below the engine deck would collect water and short out. Even simple things like adding cooling fluid required a hand pump because it was designed without a big enough radiator opening and each engine had its own radiator. Did I mention it overheated on hot days regularly requiring the engine panel doors be left open. Many times this engine created undue stress for the guys running it as we wondered if we would break down blocking a crossing with our train or God forbid holding up SMART. I don't see the 2001 in Schellville anymore. Any photos of it at Levin,s would make me very happy.
Sounds like a modern version of a Baldwin Centipede!

Who-all built gensets? It would seem like with modern locomotive systems it should be reasonably simple to build a setup that works. Weren't some built with Cummins or Detroit diesels rather than Deutz (my experience with German vehicles: they all die early and often; the Prince of Darkness has a large presence there).
