...neither McClellan AFB, Mather AFB or Sacramento Signal Depot ever had covered rail storage. The Signal Depot had the best yard facility, but they only had a small two stall engine house suitable for yard switchers only. If youre going to store this collection outside, you may as well bring it to the CSRM.
The Safeway warehouse on Florin Perkins at least had two covered spurs that sat unused, and would have protected the collection (or most of it) from the elements.
Besides, Im trying to imagine the look on any of these base commanders faces when they would be asked if theyd be willing to protect and accept liability for a large privately owned collection of rail equipment with no timetable as to how long theyd have to do it!
