As far as I know, Friends of Eel River only got
involved in the Novato lawsuit, as a friend of the court
and only after the fact. Most if not all of their communications were in public,
mostly at City Council meetings, and frequently videostreamed.

From what I heard, the City of Novato decided
to sue, after a hearing it held on the NCRA in
the summer of 2007, at which the NCRA appeared
to obfuscate its plans and potential impacts
on the city.

As I recall, Chris Neary's treatment of Marin County Supervisor
Judy Arnold, while she was serving on the NCRA Board,
didn't help NCRA's cause. Nor did its statements
in Eureka where it promised at public meetings
to restart freight service there by 2011. (reported
by Hank Sims in the North Coast Journal.)

I think that hearing is still on the city's website.
