Alstom is one of the companies heavily involved in building rolling stock for the French TGV netowrk over the years, and Alstom technology is part of Amtrak's current Acela Express fleet.

Could Alstom be establishing a beachead from which it can build TGV-style trains for the California HSR project? Inquiring railfan minds would like to know...
