How much running time is saved Merced-BAK on the CAHSR line with electrics versus rerouting existing San Joaquins onto it? 100 mph Cal Car train might take 50 minutes longer than 200 mph HSR? 125 mph Venture cars only 30 minutes difference?

Train change at Merced must be at least 5 minutes, maybe 10? 10 minutes for sure if unloading bilevel Cal Cars.

Is saving 20 to 25 minutes worth the inconvenience of changing trains? I think CA is making a mistake forcing a transfer when only phase one is open. Run San Joaquin venture trains on it.

What's that? CAHSR gold-plated the line but didn't build it strong enough to handle Amtrak trains? CAHSR did that on purpose? Isn't that like the accusation that Robert Moses intentionally built bridges so low that transit buses could use the parkways?
