When we salvaged the Portland Traction line from Milwaukie to Boring (20-some miles) it was heavily overgrown in spots, particularly the spurs and sidings.

We borrowed a ballast regulator from the Friendly SP and the ballast broom worked wonders in thrashing the vegetation. The plow also can move a lot of debris such as a small slide, etc.

Maybe you could buy one of the contractors rebuilding the line a bottle of hooch and he would supervise you or work for a small fee.

Worth considering
