So SMART can't accomplish everything they promised in the time frame originally outlined. What's the big deal? Why does every government project have to be built within a specific time frame and be 100% complete before it can go into operation? They are still collecting sales tax revenue. Why can't they get the ball rolling? Why not break the overall project down into little projects starting at Larkspur and pay as they go. Get the ball rolling. Focus on opening the Larkspur to San Rafael section first. Then extend it to Terra Linda. Then Novato. Forget about having to start the service from Santa Rosa right from the start. Why does every government project have to use bond funds to pay for them so that there is a long term debt to pay off? Haven't we learned anything from the state's buget woes?
They should do the job as promised with the bike trail to keep the people paying the taxes happy. Marinites are already marginal on this project. If they don't build the bike trail or see near term results then it just gives fuel to the naysayers that this project is a waste.
