The first article about the Sacramento Valley railroad, was written by the late 'Robert Briggs'... You will see souvenir flyers from an old "Hangtown Express" excursion sponsored by the Pac Coast Chapter, R&LHS... "Bob" is a former O-traction modeler from EBMES in Emeryville and was the club's Chief Electrician... He is the late husband of "Doras Briggs", founder of the Amtrak "Station Host" program. "Doras" usually works the Emeryville depot.
She will be **91** years old on July 4, 2009 ...
Special thanks to "Mike Palmer" for his info on the "Abandoned Rails" site...
In May-1961, I rode one of the last trips of the famed "Hangtown Express" .. It consisted of
four Jeeps and twenty-two cars including famed Open-platform Observation Car "EL DORADO",
(ex-SP 2902), now at work on CSRM's "Sacramento Southern" line...
The roundtrip fare from Oakland to Placerville and Return was about $ 9.50 !! I was still in the 9th grade in Junior High school. My English teacher paid for ME and my grandfather to go on this trip. Can you believe it ?? (Mrs. Brinker, God love her!!)
Hope all this information is interesting to you guys..
