Anschutz was willing to turn the whole Coast Line over to the State for a measly $400 million back in 1990! And, we turned our noses up at the deal. I've got some segments of urban freeways today that cost about half that much per mile just to rebuild........

The Coast Line customer service is awful, even many potential customers are so disgusted with UP's service (not price) that they've just given up on using rail. The lack of service and no competing carrier are killing Port Hueneme. Significant traffic had to leave the port because of poor connecting rail service, well before there was a recession.
