Moving costs

Have you guys factored in the moving costs? Hopefully you have a member who can move these for you. It is a long haul from Portola to Eureka. It cost the PLA roughly $8,000.00 per car to move our 3 subs from CSRM to the NCRY. That was mostly freeway miles with few restrictions over a route that you can drive in about 2 hours (make it about 3 for a truck). Don't forget crane charges at each end too. These cars cannot be handled on a roll-on roll-off trailer (like a caboose can) so you will have to use a crane company or house mover to load them. One thing the PLA has learned through the years has been that purchase price is not the only cost to look at when acquiring something. Transportion costs can be huge (especially when rail moves are unavailable). Many things have been offered to us for "free" but we declined due to the high cost of transportation.
Another note on trucking. The steps on one end of the cars will have to be removed. It is better to burn out the rivets ahead of time yourself than to let the moving company burn the steps off the day of the move. Reassembly time is much quicker and it looks a whole lot better.
