I too grew up in Kellogg, on Railroad Ave. In 1955 the UP passenger train led by heavy Pacific 2894 derailed just west of Wallace. My father was a big railfan but wasn't into photography. The next day my father and I drove up to Silverton and picked up my cousin and we went to the Wallace yard. I took along my brownie camera and between myself and my dad we took a number of shots of the wrecked UP 2894 and also Z3 4020 with a steam rotary that had just returned from Lookout Pass. The photo that hopefully loaded is of the NP portion of the yard with the NP Z3 4020, 2 GP7's with 568, my cousins head and in the background the NP watertank, a few NP gondolas and a NP caboose. I will write more later. I later worked in Wallace near the NP yards right after the merger that created the BN.
Jay, I believe we went to HS at KHS about the same time...
