The 44 years since is the difference. I probably would have reacted the same way as you if the images were posted with a "Look what I did last week," comment.
While I honestly haven't gotten into the NWP thread, there was an incident a couple years ago with some kids on Cuesta with a homemade rail sled of some sort. That being present day and an active railroad, first thing I thought was that the should be cited.
